I'm James Gately, an artist and designer based in New York City with a passion for transforming spaces and ideas through imaginative, handcrafted work. I graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a B.F.A. in Illustration, and since then, my creative journey has spanned various artistic fields—from editorial illustration to large-scale, handcrafted plaster finishes for luxury brands like Christian Dior, Gucci, and Cartier.
My work blends thoughtful design with playful expression, whether it's through detailed illustrations for publications or experimental murals that redefine spaces. Lately, I’ve been exploring new mediums, including puzzles and printmaking, which complement my background in design, murals, and illustration.
With a focus on vibrant visuals and handcrafted quality, I aim to create pieces that resonate on a personal level, whether through the walls of a mural, the pages of a comic, or the elements of a puzzle. I'm always eager to learn and grow, currently diving deeper into typography and layout design to further refine my skills.
